In the past three decades, Tom Harrell has become one of the best jazz trumpeters; He is extremely lyrical with a dazzling fluency. Praised by Newsweek as a genius of melody, Tom is widely recognized as one of the most creative jazz musicians, who does not compromise, and one of the best composers of our time.

With a discography of more than 260 discs and a career spanning more than four decades, Harrell has managed to be fresh and contemporary. He is a regular winner of the ratings of both critics and the readers of the magazines Down Beat and Jazz Times and was named trumpeter of the year in 2011 by the Jazz Journalists Association. He grew up in San Francisco and his first major opportunity was with Woody Herman (1970- 1971). He played for four years with Horace Silver (1973-1977) and before entering the Phil Woods Quintet for a long period (1983-1989), Harrell played with Lionel Hampton, Mel Lewis, Bill Evans, George Russell and Lee Konitz nonet. Since leaving Konitz has recorded a number of excellent sessions. His warm and brilliant trumpet and flugelhorn sound, harmony and sophistication rhythm is what has made him an icon of jazz.
